Leonardo Da Vinci........Renaissance Man
Leonardo Da Vinci was a true renaissance man in every meaning of the word. From art to engineer Da Vinci excelled in every field he delved into. He had many discoveries in the field of anatomy, but it is his paintings that stand out.
Da Vinci began studying the human anatomy while he was studying as a pupil. His background in painting allowed him to draw his observations, in great detail, during dissection of human corpses. We own most of our early knowledge of skeletal and muscular structures to him and his drawings, but oddly it is his paintings that he is most remembered.
The last supper is not a fresco painting in that it was not painted plaster. This means the painting deteriorated quicker than normal, which I believe made it even more priceless, besides the obvious Christian background. Then there is the Mona Lisa which is one of the most prized paintings of all time. It has been the item of multiple thefts. Much speculation has resulted from this painting, because of the precarious smile that the portrait has. All of this going to show the polymathic nature of Leonardo Da Vinci from the gruesome to the bizarre.
