What is it
Strategic use of information is a new term but the concept has been around for many centuries. A few questions in regards to strategic use of information would be; what is it? Who uses it? Why do they use it? How do they use it? These are the questions that I will evaluate throughout my research on this topic.
What is Strategic use of Information? To me the first time that I heard this term all that I could think of was how information is used to overcome an enemy. I associated this term with war and how sides use information that they have obtained to overcome the enemy. I never gave it much thought in the business world. After researching and finding out what strategic use of information is I can see how this has been useful over the years to help business succeed. My definition of Strategic use of information is when an individual or group come across some information that would be helpful to move themselves or themselves forward and ahead of the pack. This can be done by making alliances and/or removing competition. “Strategic management is the art of the future. It’s not a task undertaken while waiting for the future to arrive; it’s the way to unfold the future to reach your goals” (Gillette p. 1).
