The European Renaissance- Fashion

Fashion during the European Rennaissance was just as important as it is today. People used their clothes to show their status and wealth. Dark colors became popular as well as elaborate and expensive clothing. The very wealthy would wear silk, velvet, and cotton. The rich women would wear five or more pieces of cothing at a time once again showing status because the poor would not do this. In fact, the lower class women had only one color of dress they were allowed to wear. The women would wear a cap and usually wore their hair long and in a braid. The beret was first invented during the european Renaissance. Many were decorated with jewels to jazz them up and again show wealth. The men would wear their clothes (especially their vest and coats) wide to give them a sqaure look that was popular at the time. They not only wore pants, they also wore hosiery under their square-toed shoes.
