"Leading Quietly"
The book Leading Quietly by Joseph L Badaracco was an good book. This book highlights the characteristics, decision making strategies and tactics of everyday leaders who produce outstanding business results.
The book use case studies and quotes from famous people which expand principles of quiet leadership. This book illustrates how quiet leaders move organizations forward in strong, longer lasting, ethical ways with little if any elaboration.
The problem with today’s heroic view of leaders is that they are supposed to be at the top of the pyramid, acting boldly with self sacrifice, which the middle and bottom portions of the pyramid are composed of observers, and bystanders. Badaracco doesn’t think so. Badaracco says that quiet leaders are realists who know the political landscape and know how to get things done. They do what’s right for others, their business, and for themselves.
Some ideas that was interesting was that he said that quiet leaders move patiently, incrementally, carefully toward goals and produce consistent impressive results without causalities. Also he states that quiet leaders see a collide scope of issues which surround most business initiative rather than a fixed target. The mixes of challenges are compounded by mixed emotions of people. Quiet leaders succeed in overcoming both, in part, because of their overall aware and confidence in working through ambiguities of task and emotion, rather than being paralyzed by them.
In Conclusion, Leading Quietly is a totally refreshing highly researched case study approach to describe operations of everyday successful workplace leaders. I found that some of his issue related to myself, of how I can be a effective leader when I move into the workforce.
