SWTO Analysis approach applied to CICS

Introduction
“SWOT Analysis, is a strategic planning tool used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving that objective” (wikipedia). As some people understand the acronym as SWOT, Dr. Jay Gillette portrays SWOT as SWTO. He believes it’s important to start with an inventory of our strengths, then weigh our weakness. Then from our weakness we have a clear view of threats to ourselves and our organization, and we can see where our strengths give us encouragement and protection (Gillette, 2006, p. 11). I believe SWTO is very useful in providing information that is helpful in matching a company or a businesses resources and capabilities to the competitive environment in which it operates.

Leaders of the Technology era

According to Bernard Bass he believes “leadership to be conceived as the focus of group processes, as a matter of personality, as a matter of inducing compliance, as the exercise of influence, as particular behaviors, as a form of persuasion, as a power relation, as an instrument to achieve goals, as an effort of interaction, as a differentiated role, as initiation of structure, and as many combinations of those definitions.”(Wren, 1995,38)

The Harlem Renaissance

cafe.jpg
The Harlem Renaissance transformed African American identity and history, but it also transformed American culture in general. Never before had so many Americans read the thoughts of African-American and embraced the African American community’s productions, expressions, and style.
Most of the participants in this African American literary movement were descendants from a generation whose parents or grandparents had witnessed the injustices of slavery and the gains and losses that would come with reconstructions after the American Civil War.
The movement centered in the vast black ghetto of Harlem, in New York City, where aspiring black artists, writers, and musicians gathered, sharing their experiences and providing mutual encouragement.
The Harlem Renaissance started a lot of African American art, literature, and music. Some famous African American part of the Harlem Renaissance are Louis Armstrong, Josephine Baker, WEB Du Bois, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Langston Hughes.

Information Renaissance: Cell phones

Some people might say the information renaissance started when the first computers was made, or if you go further back maybe when the printing press was made by Johanna Gutenburg. My opinion, I believe it started when cells phones were invented. Cells phones change the world, it really change how some people live their lives. Cell phones were a huge impact during 9/11. In the hi-jack airplane, it was said that many people called their love one when that tragic event happen. I think cells phones are very useful, when people get into car accidents, you can call for emergency immediately. Major of people in the technology industy have cells phones, what type of geek would you be without one. Some people used their cell phones as house phones. Technology changes how cell phones are used today. Cell phones today have Bluetooth, internet, TV, music, MS word, and other great features. In the future cells phone might even have videoconferencing on them. I believe that the Information Renaissance started with cells phones.

The history behind Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is a legal holiday in all states, the District of Columbia, the Canal Zone, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Thanksgiving with its roast turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pies is a distinctively American holiday. The legacy of the Pilgrims is cherished by all Americans as a time for giving thanks for the harvests and for other blessings the year has brought. The idea of such a day was not new with the Pilgrims. It is claimed that the Chinese observed such rites thousands of years ago. “Thanksgiving can also be traced back to the ancient Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, which lasted eight days, also to a nine-day celebration, the Greek feast of Demeter, goddess of agriculture; and the Roman Cerealia, honoring Ceres. Both the Greek and Roman festivals featured sacrifices to the deities; and these ceremonies were combined with music and feasting”.
The pilgrims, who celebrated the first thanksgiving in America, were fleeing religious prosecution in their native England. “In 1609 a group of pilgrims left England for the religious freedom in Holland where they lived and prospered. After a few years their children spoke Dutch and they had become attached to the Dutch way of life. But the Pilgrims considered the Dutch lighthearted and considered them a threat to their children’s education and morality”. They decided to leave Holland and travel to the New World. Their trip was financed by a group of English investors, the Merchant Adventurers. It was agreed that the Pilgrims would be given passage and supplies in exchange for their working for their backers for 7 years.

Did the cow do it?

"One dark night, when people were in bed,

Mrs. O' Leary lit a lantern in her shed,

The cow kicked it over, winked its eye, and said,

There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight."
