Information Renaissance In Response To Colleague

Brandon R. Campbell colleague from the Center for Information and Communication Sciences stated in his blog, A Modern Renaissance of Information – Feeding Man’s Thirst for Knowledge, "Today knowledge and information can be obtained, retrieved, and gathered more quickly than any other time in history. Although most people would attribute this to the development of the Internet, the underlying reason is mans thirst for knowledge. The Internet is the result of this thirst."

The “thirst” to expand that knowledge, interests, and expertise through information gathering and gaining experience through others is what makes people today Renaissance man or Renaissance women.

Information Renaissance And Me!

Since entering the Center for Information and Communication Sciences program I have developed many business professional skill sets. These skills sets consist of request for proposal (RFP) response, oral presentation experience, many innovative technologies, survey research experience, usability testing, and human communication in business practice. After the Accenture Challenge feedback from professors and Accenture judges on strengths, weaknesses, and suggestions in doing consulting work and oral presentation skills was exceptionally useful. CICS is transforming its’ graduate students, masters if you will, into be a “Renaissance man”…

Vitruvian Man

Leonardo da Vinci is probably the most widely know European Renaissance creative mind known in the world today. Da Vinci was a sculpture, painter, machinist, inventor, and scientist. Man of many interests and experience, one of the first truly well known as a “Renaissance man.”

Accenture Challenge 2008 Second Place Paper

The Accenture Challenge of 2008 hosted by CICS and Accenture Company at Ball State University occurred the week of December 1st, with presentations given on Friday, December 5th starting at 8:20 AM. This year ten groups were given the case study on Monday, December 1st to begin researching with interviews with Accenture on Wednesday, December 3rd. Dr. Steele's works with Accenture employees for this ICS 601 class to give mock request for proposal (RFP) for giving the students opportunity to use what they have learned over the semester and gives the challenge of limited time to address the RFP. This years winners of the Accenture Challenge were Bill Bush and team. Second place went to Ritch Caudill and team, which I was member of. Below is the paper that was constructed for the Accenture Challenge by my team.

Communication In Practice - CICS and Ontario Systems

Executive Summary:
In this case study the company selected is, Ontario Systems LLC, this company uses information and communication practices daily. An interview from CICS alumni, Jason Houser, project consultant of Ontario Systems gave insight on the experience and knowledge of the communication and information technologies implemented in the company. The case client provided the information on company overview, problems with solutions, communication practices, along with current and future technologies. Though documentation does not clearly state the specific communication theory of the company, the information is available and known by the case clients’ personnel. As a local software management solution company, Ontario Systems, that uses technology applications for facing information and communication challenges in practice for current and future demands of its clientele.

Ontario Systems Overview:
Ontario Systems is a privately held company that develops and maintains software related to debt collections, health care and financial services. According to their web page, “Ontario Systems' healthcare clients are among the nation's top 100 hospitals and nine of the nation's 10 largest third-party collection agencies use Ontario Systems' products.” Wilbur R. Davis and Ronald K. Fauquher founded the company in the 1980s as an outgrowth of their micro processing experience in the auto industry in the 1970s. Tony Rice is the new president and CEO with Davis serving as Chairman of the Board and Fauquher as executive vice president. The company is located in Muncie, Indiana and currently employees over 500.
