The Search
Summary: The Search
We have entered a time in which the days of using paper-bound books for research have been replaced by a more convient method. Rather than traveling to the local library, people can use the internet to find all the information they need using such powerful search engines like Alta Vista, Yahoo, and especially Google. Battelle’s book, The Search, explains the history of Google. The book is broken down into three main groups. First is the birth and rise of Google, the second talks about Google on a business aspect, and the third tries to prove the justification of how Google has transformed our society.
In the first four chapters of the book, it covers information on the rise of Google. It talks about how Google surpassed other research engines like Archie and Veronica. It also covers the aspects of nature and functions of search.
The second topic, which talks about Google on a business side, is covered in the next four chapters. It talks about how Google used a valuable product called pat=per-click. This showed profit for the search engine. Google “borrowed” this idea from GoTo.com, which was one of the first to use it.
The last topic covers the justification of allowing the transformation from paper based research to that of the digital search engines. As radical as it may be, search engines have made lives more conformable by allowing ease of access to information.
