Web 2.0

I have just recently, the semester, really understood what Web 2.0 was, and how we were using it. This subject has never been talked about in any of my previous classes from undergrad, so I was very confused on what it exactly was. After we had presentations, and papers on Web 3.0 systems, and how they benefit us, I think I have a way better grasp on what it is.

Web 2.0 systems are those such as Facebook, Myspace, Skype, Webex, Yahoo Messenger, and Google docs and Wave. These are all systems that help us as a society communicate with each other, with different web based applications.

Facebook allows for you to find friends and family all over the world. You are able to show them photos of you, let them know how you are doing, but posting up status, or if they are online at the same time you are, you have the option of chatting with them. Facebook has a lot of the Web 2.0 systems integrated into it.

Webex is a conferencing too that lets you to be able to share your desktop with people around the world. You can give presentations, conduct meetings, and even try to troubleshoot computer issues. Webex has audio and video capabilities that allows for you to talk about what is going on and the audience can not only hear you, but see you too.

Google Docs is something that allows for you to talk and chat with your friends. You can share and edit each others documents. You can share your calendar with other people, so they know what your schedule looks like.

European Renaissance

The work Renaissance means rebirth, and the Europeans were filled with interested in classical learning and values, after the Middle Ages. This is the time where new continents were discovered, the substitution of the Copernican for Ptolemaic system of astronomy, and the decline of the feudal system and the growth of commerce. There were also a lot of innovative ideas, that lead to how we communicate today. They invented paper, printing and compasses. These are all things that lead to communication and the information Renaissance.

We are taught in grade school and high school that the European Renaissance is just about the art and classical learning, but there are some things that we are not taught, that I feel is very interesting and just as important.

During the European Renaissance, Europe's fashion began to get influenced by Italy and Germany. Clothing has always been a status symbol, and it was exactly the same back then. But during the renaissance it was an even bigger status symbol. Most of the wealthy spent most of their money on clothing, and darker colors became the most popular. They were easier to show off embroidery or jewels that were sewn onto the clothing. Expensive fabrics that were worn by the wealthy would be silk, brocade, velvet, and cotton. Clothing did not lose value, and it was very important to social status, this allowed for people to be able to pawn their clothing when times were hard, and it was not unknown for Kinds and Queens to pawn their clothing also.

Womens clothing changed three times during the renaissance. They went from three piece clothing, such as underskirt, bodice, and robe, to one piece, and finally to five or more pieces, that would include, skirt, underskirt, bodice, overbodice or vest, hoop and collar. This helped to keep the rich poor separate, and it was easier to tell who was rich and who was not.
